Albion College Campus Reopens
Posted Monday, September 16th 2013 @ 7am  by The Associated Press

Albion College has reopened after powerful thunderstorms last week that hit the school's southern Michigan campus prompted it to shut down.

The school says in a posting on its website that the campus 85 miles west of Detroit reopened Sunday and classes are back in session Monday.

Thunderstorms strafed southern and southeast Michigan on Wednesday with up to 80 mph winds, knocking down power lines and trees. The private, four-year college with roughly 1,380 students was hit hard.

The school says no injuries were reported. Storm cleanup mostly is complete, but the school urged people to be cautious.

The National Weather Service determined that straight-line winds caused damage around Albion, not a tornado. Damage was concentrated in an area nearly 2 miles long and a half-mile wide.
