A 49-year-old Detroit man has been arrested at a Rochester Hills grocery store after he apparently cashed in phony bottle return slips.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a local grocery store late Tuesday afternoon to investigate a potential fraud.
Kroger’s fraud investigators told arriving deputies that they have been investigating two suspects who have cashed counterfeit bottle return slips from their stores over the past two months.
The investigators told police the suspects are responsible for more than two thousand dollars in fraudulent bottle returns. On Tuesday, one of those suspects came into the store and cashed 50 dollars worth of bottle return slips before he was detained by the fraud investigators, who called police.
The man, who was not identified, was arrested on fraud/uttering and publishing charges and lodged at the Oakland County Jail, pending an arraignment.
