Help For Homeless Veterans

Help For Homeless Veterans

Help is on the way for homeless veterans in west Michigan.

The Kent County Department of Community Development and Housing Commission is partnering with the the Veterans Assistance Supportive Housing Program in Kent County.

"This program assists veterans and their families with vouchers they can use toward housing rentals," said Linda Likely, the Director of the Kent County Community Development and Housing Commission. "In addition to vouchers, clients receive intensive case management to help them and their families become self-sufficient." Once a veteran completes the program and no longer needs the housing vouchers, the vouchers then become available for another client to use. The vouchers do not expire.

Likely tells WOOD Radio many veterans return from active duty with complications that keep them from returning to civilian life.

"It is not just a single issue. It is usually multiple issues compounded by post traumatic stress syndrome."
