Public Schools Count Kids on Count Day Today

Public Schools Count Kids on Count Day Today

Nine of every 10 dollars the state government pays to the public schools this year will be determined by how many kids are in class today.

The September "Count Day" has become very important, according to one Assistant Superintendent with the Kent Intermedia School District.

Ron Koehler tells WOOD Radio that the schools will have a clear picture of their finances after today.

Fifty-six districts in the state have budget deficits and the state Education Department warns that they must make deeper budget cuts or risk being shut down and split up, the way the students were in the Inkster school district this past summer.
