Time magazine: Don't miss ArtPrize 2013
Listed with Indonesia, Sweden, New Zealand events
Time magazine has named ArtPrize one of its "Five Festive Events You Won't Want to Miss in 2013."
Showcasing more than 1,500 entries in 2012, the world's largest art competition brings hundreds of
thousands of people to Grand Rapids each year.
Also on the list:
Pasola in Sumba, Indonesia
Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden
Guca Trumpet Festival in Guca, Serbian Dragacevo
Burt Munro Challenge on South Island, New Zealand
ArtPrize awards $560,000 in prizes. The winner of the largest prize is selected by the public.
"The prize money is the largest of its kind in the world, but ArtPrize’s real difference isn’t cash," Time
says. "It’s the event’s 'unusual and daring ability to completely democratize the process of artistic
judgment,' says 2011 judge Noit Banai. 'Whether one agrees or disagrees with the grand public’s choice, the
process empowers ordinary people to be the sole judge of value.'"
ArtPrize 2013 runs Sept. 18 to Oct. 6.
